Does Tea Repel Mosquitoes?

I love going to the woods to pick blueberries, strawberries, raspberries… this activity has only one unpleasant element: mosquitoes. Here where I live it is full and they are nasty creatures!!! Even the repellent didn’t work yesterday….

Well, this afternoon, in between scratching (I ran out of my beloved tea tree oil) I searched the internet if by any chance there was any result with the words “tea” and “mosquitoes” and here are some interesting facts:

  • The India Express says Professor K N Dwivedi, head of the Department of Ayurvedics at Kaashi Hindu University, found that green tea plants emit a scent, similar to lemon, that can keep mosquitoes and bees away. So all it would take is to have a green tea plant in the house, smear the leaves on your body before you go out, and you’re done–well, who has a (green) tea plant in the house?
  • Then I found something great on a site called Omg Facts. Basically, according to them, if one drinks green tea (green is a constant), during the day the chemicals in the tea, evaporating through the pores of the skin, would keep mosquitoes away. Warning: they recommend drinking green tea, but without sugar because mosquitoes are treated by sweet things….
  • On the E How site, on the other hand, they recommend an infusion of lemon grass or lemon peel and mint, steeped at least 20 minutes, with which to then bathe the skin. The lemon grass infusion would provide four hours of protection. It does no harm to try…

The most reasonable results, in my opinion, are those that defer to tea tree oil, both as a post-bite soother and as a repellent…

Do you know of other natural methods to keep mosquitoes at bay?
