When one thinks of Queen Elizabeth, it is impossible not to imagine her smiling and composed as she sips a cup of tea, wearing one of her extravagantly colored and feathered caps. So many questions shroud tea in mystery, today we will tackle a rather curious question: can tea and milk be used together? Can lemon be put in tea? How much sugar in tea?
To answer these questions we will be helped by a little anecdote related to British tradition. Most English people like to stain and drink black tea and milk, a few drops of cold milk for its sweetening action but this practice has more traditional uses and in fact this practice was once not related to the taste that milk imparted to the tea but rather to the desire to protect the porcelain from any fractures and stains that heat and color of the black tea might have caused. However, some recent studies have shown how this practice of tea and milk inhibits the beneficial properties of black tea.
Can lemon be put in tea?
Adding lemon totally alters the taste of the tea because of the ascorbic acid it slowly releases but at the same time promotes the absorption of the antioxidant properties of green tea for example. In short, we go ahead and use lemon but with caution!
How much sugar in tea?
The permission to employ sugar in tea comes directly from the British who were the first to use it. We recommend that you always use raw cane or beet sugar, which will not alter the taste of the tea, plus your health will thank you. A great yummy alternative to sugar is honey. Sugar is banned for white tea, green tea and oolong tea, its use is recommended for black tea.
What about you, do you use the British method, lemon and sugar or do you like to drink your tea pure?
