Can I Give Tea to my Dog?

Can Dogs Have Tea?

Have you ever thought about it? I have…my cat doesn’t like tea, but my dog does and more than once I’ve found him with his snout inside the cup…but is that right?

According to Canigivemydog.com (news confirmed by other sources) the answer is no. This is because tea (the article mentions green tea, but the argument still applies) contains caffeine and your dog does not need it. In pet food there is already taurine, an excitatory substance, and that is all they need, not other stimulants. So just as chocolate (another stimulant) is banned, tea is banned for dogs.

The article says that dog owners want to give their dogs green tea because it contains many antioxidants and can help prevent cancer, a disease that often affects our four-legged friends as well. While it’s true that green tea can help, we still can’t consider it the magic solution, the shield to protect us and our pets from all illnesses, even the most serious ones.

The article goes on to point out that all you need to do to keep your dog healthy is to give him the right foods, exercise him outdoors, and provide him with regular food and water.

British veterinarian Pete Wedderburn in the Telegraph suggests infusions (hebal tea) for dogs created by Woof and Brew. Seven sachets for £3.99 and you can choose the blend for adult dogs, the one for elderly dogs, the one to make hair and skin look better, the one to combat bad breath, the one for agility or the one to prevent anxiety…

In any case, Pete Wedderburn says that in small amounts tea does no harm… when in doubt, I prefer to keep the tea to myself and let my dog take an extra walk
